7/31/10: PJs for Me

Align Center

During late June, I found that I needed some sleepwear so I decided to pull out the pajama pattern I used before (see here) and sew some up.

Project: Flannel PJ Bottoms

Made for whom?
Me.

Pattern and #: Simplicity 3571

Pattern source: I bought this pattern from sewingpatterns.com as a download. Price was $2.99, on sale.

What is included in this pattern? Misses' / Women's pajamas, pajama bag and knit top. I only used the misses' pajama bottom pattern.

Does this pattern have any interesting features? Yes. The pajamas have attached sleeves, you know, kimono style.

Fabric choice: A 60" wide, 100% cotton flannel in black. Bought three yards from fabric.com for $11.94, used almost entire piece of fabric.

What size did I do? I did size 14.

Any pattern alterations? Yes. Here is my list of alterations:

1. I lengthened the legs by adding 5 inches.

2. I added a drawstring to the pants' waist casing. Why? Just for that extra support.

How did I finish my seams? I chose to finish my seams with a three-thread overlock stitch on my serger using a #80 needle and 100% polyester thread.

Any problems along the way? I've done this pattern before so I had a good idea about the construction process BUT I had a difficult time adding my drawstring. This was caused by the need of adding two buttonholes in the casing area, so the drawstring may be inserted and adjusted. The flannel kept on getting caught in the machine. I wound up making the buttonholes by hand which worked better than I thought.

See here it is...
